How does it work?
1. Learn about the 4 themes

The municipality is making a budget of € 40,000 available to improve the neighbourhood according to four themes: sports and games, on the street, a greener neighbourhood, other initiatives

2. Submit a plan and start your campaign

Anyone could submit a plan until 13 December. Suggest a plan and promote it in the neighbourhood to make sure it receives at least 15 likes. Others can like and comment on your plan.

3. Feasibility check by the municipality

If your plan receives 15 likes by 20 December, it will be checked for feasibility by the municipality and the residents’ organisation.

4. Divide € 40,000 among the feasible plans

Residents of Benoordenhout will divide the budget over their favourite plans and thus decide which plans will be executed.

  • Your plan falls within one of the following themes:
    • Sports and games
    • On the street
    • A greener neighbourhood
    • Other
  • The maximum estimated budget for Benoordenhout is € 40,000. Plans that exceed this budget limit will be considered unfeasible. As the budget may be divided among several plans, totalling no more than € 40,000, you are also welcome to submit a smaller plan with a smaller budget.
  • Your plan must be relevant either for a specific location in Benoordenhout or for the entire district. Your plan must benefit residents of Benoordenhout.
  • Your plan must be executable within 12 months.
  • Anyone can submit a plan: residents, cooperations, social entrepreneurs etc. located in or outside Benoordenhout.
  • Plans that receive at least 15 likes will go to the second round and will be eligible for a feasibility check by the municipality.
  • Your plan must comply with statutory regulations and local policies. The municipality’s feasibility check may have implications for your plan and the municipality may advise you to adjust your plan accordingly. Take a look at the municipality's checklist.
  • Residents of Benoordenhout allocate the budget to the feasible plans and thus decide which plans will be executed.
  • Residents execute the plan together. The municipality facilitates if necessary.
Why Participatory Budget for Noordelijk Scheveningen?

Why a Participatory Budget for Benoordenhout?

Residents know best what their neighbourhood needs. The municipality recognises this and has reserved a budget for residents’ plans. The participatory budget gives residents a say in what happens in their neighbourhood.  ‘Users’ of the neighbourhood – residents, business owners and non-profit organisations – can submit plans that will help make Benoordenhout more beautiful, social, sporty or greener. The residents of Benoordenhout will divide up the € 40,000 over the feasible plans that they like best.

Benoordenhout is the third neighbourhood in the Haagse Hout district to receive its own participatory budget. Bezuidenhout-West and Bezuidenhout received one in 2020. Check out the planning here to find out when other neighbourhoods will get a participatory budget.
